WhatsApp, Instagram, FB Face Global Outage
Meta owned WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook, experienced a global outage on Wednesday, disrupting services for millions of users. Reports of the outage began at around 11:29 p.m. IST, with users unable to send or receive messages, make calls, or access WhatsApp Web.
The issue persisted until around 11:52 p.m. IST, affecting Android, iOS, and desktop users. On WhatsApp, users couldn’t send messages or make calls, while Facebook became completely inaccessible. Instagram also froze, with some users being logged out and others reporting unresponsiveness.
The outage was not limited to India, with reports coming in from the UK, Turkey, UAE, Pakistan, and Latin America. Posts on X highlighted the disruption across regions.
During the downtime, many users checked their internet connections and refreshed apps, initially mistaking the problem for local connectivity issues. Meta has yet to release a statement on the disruption.
Meanwhile, X was flooded with memes, with over 500 posts appearing within a minute, search results indicate.
WhatsApp Responds
In a post on X, WhatsApp acknowledged the issue, saying, “We’re aware of some issues accessing WhatsApp. We’re actively working on a solution and starting to see a return to normal for most people. We expect things to be back to normal shortly.”
