SC grants anticipatory bail to actor Siddique in rape case

Actor must deposit passport, cooperate in probe, says court

The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to Malayalam actor Siddique in a rape case. A bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma ruled that the veteran actor would need to deposit his passport and cooperate with the investigating officer in the ongoing probe.

The Court issued this order after reviewing the circumstances of the case, emphasizing the need for Siddique's full cooperation. The directive to surrender his passport is a precautionary measure to ensure that the actor does not attempt to flee the country during the investigation process.

The case involves allegations against Siddique, who has been under investigation for his alleged involvement in the crime. Kerala Police have accused the actor of hindering the investigation, claiming that he destroyed electronic devices and deleted his social media accounts.

Siddique, a prominent figure in the Malayalam film industry, has been embroiled in legal matters related to the case, with authorities intensifying efforts to gather evidence. The actor's legal team has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the Supreme Court's order.

Earlier, on September 30, the Supreme Court had granted Siddique interim protection from arrest. The Court also noted that the complaint in the case was filed in August, eight years after the alleged incident in 2016.

On September 24, the Kerala High Court had rejected Siddique's anticipatory bail plea, stating that due to the seriousness of the accusations, custodial interrogation was necessary for a proper investigation into the crime.

This development comes amidst growing public attention surrounding the case and the involvement of high-profile individuals. Authorities are expected to take further legal actions based on the ongoing investigation.
