In the May 2026 state assembly elections, his party disrupted a 50-year-old political duopoly held by the DMK and AIADMK.

Under his leadership, the TVK secured 108 seats to emerge as the single-largest party in the state.

Backed by key allied partners, Vijay successfully took the oath as the ninth CM of Tamil Nadu on May 10, 2026.
