1 dead, 9 injured in Baltimore county shooting, fiery crash

A shooting and related fiery car crash on Tuesday night in a suburban area north of Baltimore left one person dead and nine injured, police said.

Gunshots were reported across a neighborhood near the site where the car ultimately crashed outside a closed funeral home, according to Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough.

McCullough provided limited details about the incident but said investigators believe it was both targeted and isolated. “It appears that the individuals in this case somehow knew one another and that this incident was intentional and targeted,” he stated at a news conference.

The conditions of the nine hospitalized victims have not been disclosed, and it is unclear if all were shot. Some gunfire also damaged the facade of the funeral home, and police received reports of shootings in other nearby locations.

Describing the event as “an ongoing, rolling type of gun situation,” McCullough said it culminated in the fiery crash. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a car overturned and engulfed in flames.

Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski expressed shock over the incident. “This is an incident that is shocking, particularly for those of us in Baltimore County,” he said. “These types of incidents are unheard of here, and so it really shocks the conscience.”

Olszewski assured the public that police and fire investigators would be provided with all necessary resources to solve the case.
