Khalistani supporters displayed a tableau depicting the assassination of former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi at a parade in Canada’s Brampton.
The Brampton parade happened on June 4, just days before the 39th anniversary of Operation Blue Star on June 6.
Meanwhile, Canadian envoy has condemned Brampton event celebrating Indira Gandhi's assassination and said he's appalled.
The diplomat's statement comes after a video of the tableau from the Brampton parade went viral on Twitter.
Canadian High Commissioner slammed reports that Indira Gandhi’s assassination was celebrated at an event in Canada.
Cameron MacKay posted on Twitter stating there is no place in Canada for hate or for the glorification of violence. “I am appalled by reports of an event in Canada that celebrated the assassination of late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. There is no place in Canada for hate or for the glorification of violence. I categorically condemn these activities."
The video showed a tableau displayed at a Brampton parade showing Indira Gandhi wearing a saree with blood stains, with her hands up as turban-clad men point guns at her with a 'revenge' signboard.
The video has sparked widespread outrage across the country. Netizens have expressed disbelief and and anger on social media, condemning the act as 'anti-national'.
