PM Modi US Visit Itinerary, Singer Mary Millben to Perform at Modi Diaspora Event

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a three-day visit to the US beginning on June 21 to strengthen ties with the foreign nation as officials said that they were preparing for a “robust outcome document” which will set the tone for forging future ties.

Since 2014, after Modi was voted to power, he has visited the US on six occasions and interacted with three presidents: Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden. However, this visit has a special significance as it will be his first State visit. Modi is visiting the foreign nation following invitation by US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. They will host Modi at a state dinner on June 22.

Let us take a look at Modi’s jam-packed schedule in the US

One June 21, Modi will lead the International Day of Yoga celebrations at the UN headquarters in New York. African American singer and actress Mary Millben, 41, known for her rendition of Om Jai Jagadish Hare' and Jana Gana Mana', will attend the celebrations at UNHQ with Modi.

Modi will also pay respects to Mahatma Gandhi’s bust at the North Lawns of the UN headquarters.

Modi and Biden are also expected to hold talks during a private engagement on June 21 itself.

On June 22, formal bilateral meetings are scheduled with four-five components in Washington. Modi and Biden will engaged in a high-level bilateral dialogue, alongside their respective delegations. They would discuss economic, defence and technology partnerships between the two countries, apart from climate change.

Modi will also address a joint sitting of the US Congress, at the invitation of the Congressional leaders, which includes House of Representative Speaker Kevin Mc Carthy and Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer.

Modi is the only Indian leader to address the US Congress twice. In 2016, he had addressed the Congress during his visit to the US.

On June 23, the third and the final day of his visit, Modi will hold one-on-one interactions with select CEOs, professional and other stakeholders. He would also deliver a speech at a programme organised by the Washington DC-based independent NGO called the ‘US-Indian Strategic Partnership Forum’.

Modi will also speak to prominent persons from the Indian diaspora including Indian-origin doctors, lawyers, hoteliers and businessmen at an event to be held at the Ronal Raegan Centre in Washington DC. Mary Millben will perform at the diaspora event.
