In a move to curb rampant migration, the Australian Government had on Monday taken a step to significantly raise the visa fee for international students.
Nearly doubling from earlier A$ 710, the Visa fee now went up to A$ 1,600 (Rs 89,005). Additionally, the government had also decided to ban visitor visa holders and students with temporary graduate visas from applying onshore for a student visa. The move concerns international students, especially from India.
The government also said they are trying to close the loopholes in visa rules that restrict international students from continuously extending their stay. According to data, there is a 30 percent rise in immigration in 2023.
Meanwhile, the increase in visa fee makes Australian student visa costlier than visa of countries like the USA and Canada.
