Dominica to award Modi its highest national honor
The Commonwealth of Dominica will honor Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with its highest national award, the Dominica Award of Honour, in recognition of his contributions during the Covid-19 pandemic and his commitment to strengthening ties between India and Dominica. The award will be presented by President Sylvanie Burton at the India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana, which takes place from November 19 to 21. Modi’s efforts included supplying 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine to Dominica in February 2021, helping the country manage the crisis and extend support to its Caribbean neighbors.
Dominica also lauds Modi’s leadership in advancing cooperation in healthcare, education, information technology, and climate resilience. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit emphasized that this award is a symbol of Dominica's deep gratitude for Modi's solidarity during the global health crisis. Skerrit further highlighted the strong bilateral relations between the two countries, which have contributed to mutual progress and resilience.
In response to the award, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the importance of global cooperation, particularly in addressing climate change and geopolitical challenges, and reaffirmed India's commitment to working with Dominica and the wider Caribbean region on these critical issues.
The India-CARICOM Summit will serve as a platform for discussing shared priorities and enhancing cooperation between India and the Caribbean nations, further solidifying the partnership between the two regions.
