New Delhi: External affairs minister S. Jaishankar on Wednesday described Russia as a “trusted partner” during bilateral talks with Sergey Lavrov in New Delhi.
Jaishankar said political cooperation between the two countries remains “valuable” in an uncertain global environment and stressed the need for sustained engagement to advance ties. He noted that both nations share an interest in a multipolar world order and that the meeting provided an opportunity to review the bilateral strategic partnership.
Lavrov referred to the close relationship between the two countries and recalled the visit of Vladimir Putin to India last year. He indicated continued cooperation in strategic sectors and emphasised the need to “find global answers to global problems” in the context of ongoing international challenges.
The meeting comes ahead of the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, where global and regional issues are expected to be discussed.
Jaishankar also held separate bilateral meetings with Mauro Vieira and Ronald Lamola. He additionally met visiting counterparts from the Maldives and Chile.
The engagements are part of diplomatic consultations on bilateral ties and multilateral cooperation.
