Violent Protests in Kenya: Indian Embassy issues advisory

The Indian Embassy in Kenya had issued an advisory on Wednesday to Indians in the foreign land as the country is on the boil over a controversial bill proposing to hike taxes.

Sounding caution, the Embassy shared on its 'X' handle, "ADVISORY FOR INDIAN NATIONALS IN KENYA. In view of the prevailing tense situation, all Indians in Kenya are advised to exercise utmost caution, restrict non-essential movement and avoid the areas affected by the protests and violence till the situation clears up." It also urged citizens to follow local news and the Embassy's social media handles for live updates.
Official records state that more than 20,000 Indians reside in Kenya.
Nairobi, Kenya's Capital and other prominent cities are witnessing violent protests opposing the parliament's approval of the controversial bill proposing tax hikes in the country.
The protesters attacked the parliament building and set some parts of the building on fire, forcing the police to open fire and use tear gas to bring the situation under control.
According to reports, as many as five were killed and more than 30 persons were injured during the protests.
