Not me, Asif Ali Zardari killed Benazir Bhutto: Pervez Musharraf
Islamabad: Pakistan's former military ruler Pervez Musharraf on Thursday turned the tables on former President Asif Ali Zardari and blamed him for the Dec 2007 assassination of his wife, Benazir Bhutto a two time Prime Minister and her brother Murtaza Bhutto on September 20, 1996.
In a video message, President Gen. Pervez Musharraf called on the authorities to arrest Mr Zardari in both cases. He said that "innocent officers" former Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Saud Aziz and former Rawal Town Superin tendent Police (SP) Khurram Shahzad had been sentenced to 17 years in prison even as five terrorists, who were under custody, had been acquitted.
“I was quiet when Zardari accused me of murdering Benazir Bhutto,” he added.
Mr Musharraf went on to accuse senior Afghan leaders of being involved in the murder. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-Chairman Mr Zardari had contacts with former Afghan President Hamid Karzai. “My revelations are important for (Mr Zardari’s children) Bilawal (Bhutto), Asifa (Bhutto) and Bakhtawar (Bhutto),” he said.
Benazir Bhutto was assassinated in a gun-and-bomb attack outside Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh on December 27, 2007.
