Unexplained Sewer Activity Across New York City Draws Official Scrutiny
One of the incidents occurred in Brooklyn's Gravesend neighborhood, where a witness reported seeing eight individuals remove a manhole cover and enter the sewer system.

New York authorities are investigating a series of unusual incidents after multiple groups of people were spotted entering and exiting the city's sewer system late at night.
The investigation began after videos circulated on social media showing individuals climbing out of manholes while carrying flashlights and shovels in different parts of the city. According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), emergency service officers were sent into the sewer network to ensure there was no threat to public safety. Officials reported finding no suspicious materials or damage to the infrastructure.
One of the incidents occurred in Brooklyn's Gravesend neighborhood, where a witness reported seeing eight individuals remove a manhole cover and enter the sewer system. The group reportedly resurfaced nearly three hours later, changed clothes beside parked vehicles, and left the area.
Another incident was reported in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, where a separate group was seen entering a manhole before emerging more than two hours later and driving away. Similar activity was also reported in Astoria, Queens, in early May.
Investigators are exploring several theories, including the possibility that the individuals were searching the sewer system for valuables that may have entered the network. However, authorities have not confirmed a motive, and it remains unclear whether the incidents are connected.
No arrests have been made, and no injuries have been reported to date as the investigation continues.
