UFO Speculation Sparks After Mysterious Lights Appear Over Capitol Hill
Mysterious lights spotted over Capitol Hill have sparked widespread speculation, with many questioning whether they could be a sign of UFO activity. The lights, captured in a viral photo by U.S. Air Force veteran Dennis Diggins, show four bright orbs hovering above the Statue of Freedom atop the Capitol Dome.
The sighting immediately gained traction on social media, with some viewers suggesting an extraterrestrial connection. This sighting comes at a time when UFO-related topics have been in the spotlight, particularly after recent U.S. congressional hearings on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAPs), which included testimony from former military personnel about encounters with unexplained aerial objects.
While some social media users were quick to speculate about UFOs or even alien surveillance, experts have offered more grounded explanations. Ufologist John Greenewald Jr. suggested that the lights were likely a result of lens flare, a common photographic artifact caused by light reflecting off the camera lens. This phenomenon has led to similar "UFO" sightings over Capitol Hill in the past.
Despite these alternate explanations, the timing of the sighting, coinciding with heightened public interest in UFOs, has kept the debate alive. Although the Pentagon has previously dismissed UFO sightings as misidentified objects or natural phenomena, the incident has reignited discussions about the possibility of extraterrestrial encounters.
