Techies to rock in "Lungi Dance"
IT professionals at Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram are preparing for a Lungi dance competition.
In full sleeve shirts and printed ties, western and Indian formals, they walk into the Technopark campus Mondays through Fridays. So when a 'lungi' dance competition was announced in the campus, it was welcomed eagerly. For one day, they would like to loosen up. The 'Red Lungi Dance League' will be held in the Amphitheatre of the Technopark campus on November 22.
Red FM, in association with Gitanjali Jewellers, had originally planned to conduct the event on Kerala Piravi Day -November 1. “But we could not hold it then and the event has been pushed to November 22. Open only to Technopark employees, teams of five can register for the league," says Praveen of Red FM.
The competition consists of two rounds — a general round in which the participants can choose a song of their choice to dance and a second round of Dappan Koothu. The finalists will be given a song to dance on the spot.
Wearing a lungi for all rounds is mandatory.
“Winners will get a cash prize of Rs 20,000 while the runner up will get Rs 15,000. There is a cash prize of Rs 10,000 for the ‘Most Flashy Team’," says Praveen.
Kritika, an employee of the UST Global, has just called Praveen to register.
“We are a group that is interested in dancing. And the lungi concept sounds different and interesting. So we, a team of three girls and two guys, thought we will give it a shot,” she says.
