All the characters in the film are ruthless: Priyanka Bose
Priyanka Bose is excited about her first big role in 'Gulaab Gang'.
She likes to make a difference to society and chooses to associate herself with projects pertaining to socially relevant issues like fighting against rape and child trafficking, and supporting remarriage.
Priyanka Bose started her career with small roles in films like 'LSD' (Love Sex Dhoka), 'Johnny Gaddar' and 'Guzaarish', but soon grabbed attention with her power-packed performance as a tribal woman in Italian director, Italo Spinelli’s 'Gangor'. And now, the lady is on a roll as she has some exciting plays, films and television commercials in her kitty.
Talking about her next film, 'Gulaab Gang', where she will be seen playing an integral part along with Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla, she says, “The film is directed by Soumik Sen and produced by Anubhav Sinha. I play the role of a gang member who is a tribal and her name is Sandhya. All the characters in the film are quite dangerous and ruthless.”
When asked about what she finds inspirational about Madhuri, she puts forth, “It was amazing working with her. I have grown up idolising her. She is a great performer, dancer and a woman of substance. I learnt from her that no matter how high you reach, you have a greater responsibility to carry out — a job needs to be done well for yourself and the millions of fans. Madhuri is simply a perfectionist.”
Bose will also be featuring in Oass directed by Abhinav Tiwari and Oonga by Devashish Makhija. “Oass is based on the sensitive issue of child trafficking and I’ll be playing a negative role of a brothel madam. Oonga is a children’s film by Devashish who wrote a beautiful story on the corporates encroaching tribal land. The film is told through the eyes of the 8-year-old boy, Oonga. I’m playing his mother who is a tribal, Oongamma,” shares Priyanka.
Among the international projects, Priyanka is excited about her upcoming film 'Sold', a Hollywood project by director Jeffery D. Brown, “The film is based on child trafficking and features Gillian Anderson and David Arquette. It is based on the book by the same name by author Patricia McCormick. I play a prostitute who has a very positive relationship with a 13-year-old beautiful actress,” adds Bose. The actress features in the internationally acclaimed play Nirbhaya, written and directed by South African playwright Yael Farber based on the December 16 Delhi gang rape. “This play comes from the pseudonym given to Jyoti Singh Pandey after her death in December 2012 by the press to protect her identity. It is a small gesture towards her from us, ensuring that she didn’t die in vain. I have everything invested in this piece, it is by far the best thing I have done as an artiste and an aware citizen,” she says. The multi-talented actress has also started a production company, PaapiPet Pictures which creates music videos for musicians and bands like Kailasa (Kailash Kher) and Mikey Mcleary (Bartender) among others. “This project is in collaboration with two other friends. We have made short format films and a few music videos so far,” she concludes.
