Obsession for art and a cause
Profits from the art exhibition by Malayalam University ViceChancellor will be donated towards a humanitarian cause.
Memory Traps, an ongoing exhibition of 24 paintings in oil and acrylic by Malayalam University ViceChancellor K. Jayakumar, is aimed at portraying a better tomorrow.
It was the fifth solo show by the artist and is held with the sole purpose of supporting the organisation SOLACE, which works for the welfare of children with life-threatening diseases.
The exhibition, organised by Palette People at The Art Corridor, Hotel Le Meridien, will conclude on November 23.
“It was Jayakumar sir's wish that the proceeds from the paintings be used for a unique and charitable cause. Already three paintings have been sold and regular buyers will be visiting in the coming days. So we are hopeful of collecting a good amount to donate to the cause. Whatever profit is left, after excluding the expenses of the exhibition, will be donated to SOLACE," says Cyril P . Jacob from Palette People.
The artist describes his work in the series as his “Obsessions, observations, discomforts, disconnects, memories and madness. I enjoy that painful delight of discovering life trapped among the debris and it is these invisible landscapes that I try to explore in my paintings. To me, painting is often a medium for compulsive expression," says K. Jayakumar.
Perhaps it is this compulsion and obsession that prompted him to donate towards such a humanitarian cause.
