These days it is possible to have a bad hair day even if you are having a “good hair day”. For some of the hair-treatments available in the city can set you back by as much  Rs 30,000 and there’s no guarantee that they will always work. Dr Rashmi Shetty, aesthetic physician and chief consultant at the citybased Reva Clinic, says, "Of all the hair problems, hair fall is the most common that people come to me with. And I have found cases of earlybalding prevalent the most in men from Andhra Pradesh."

Dr Rashmi, whose clients include Tollywood and Bollywood stars, lists out the causes. "Hard water in the region is one reason; most men, even actors, have a history of baldness in their families; actors are exposed to lights and dust during shootings; dehydration also causes hair fall." "Women face issues with their hair texture. It’s not a problem with men as they keep cutting their hair," adds Dr Rashmi.

She even laughs off the tall claims of shampoo ads.

She adds, "The kind of hair that you see actresses sporting in ads, are unachievable. Every strand of hair is airbrushed, cosmetically arranged. Shampoos can only clean the hair." Talking about the new frontiers of hair treatment like oxygen treatment, mesotherapy and PRP (Platele Rich Plasma), Dr Rashmi says, "They address the basic health of the hair. They enhance the supply of blood and nutrition to hair and are given at the scalp." Oxygen treatment: In this treatment, oxygen is pumped at high pressure on to the scalp. It makes the hair healthy and youthful.

Mesotherapy: Doctors inject a concoction into the scalp. This is advised before and after hair transplant. It makes the hair thicker and denser.

PRP: A patient’s own blood is centrifuged to separate its components. Then a technology gel enriches the platelets with growth factor, which after injecting into the skin, leads to skin rejuvenation and tissue regeneration.

Cost: Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 per session.

Results: Results start showing after 4-5 sessions, claim experts.

Local Problem: There are concerns whether these treatments will be beneficial in the long run given the contaminated water of Hyderabad.
