Dark, intense and classic, black is the perfect shade for winter.

Here comes the confession! We humbly admit, fashion remains seriously caught under the black magic spell. Now, did you say, as always?

Well, the fall/winter 2013-14 runway proves that black is too versatile to ride on monotony. It's basking in an all new look.

Roberto Cavalli's black affiliation resulted in a complete black silhouette that merges into Renaissance-inspired prints in bright shades.

Alexander McQueen exhibited the flair for black with shimmering studs and metallic sequins. A McQueen black laser cut leather pleated dress on Kate Moss at a recent red carpet event stood out to tell a beautiful black story.

Zuhair Murad is showcasing ready-to-wear chic with bright floral prints on sheath dresses and black on black applique work to create stunning 3D effect.

Not to be missed is Naeem Khan's silk georgette chemise in black with ivory threadwork on raglan sleeves from his resort line.

Looks like Stella McCartney believes the world looks beautiful in black and white, so her collection follows the same route. Layered, linear pinstripe silhouettes in black also find her approval.

Carven's faded black prints on basic black skirt and jumper are simply stellar.

On the other hand, Zac Posen's Fall 2014 line remains completely black as separates in satin and wools.

This season designer Rocky S too is handling black with a difference. “The colour black has been reborn in every possible way. Yet the enigma of the dark continues to hold sway season after season," he says.

The shade has the designer' s complete attention, and he adds, “Shimmer is a word that is making things interesting for all things black. I am relying on beadwork and sequins to bring some gorgeous bling, while exaggerated textures and layers of fabric continue to add to a certain aura. It spells extravagance and gorgeous delin eations of femininity."

Versatility is the key word here as black defines it like no other, feels designer Ritika Bharwani.

She says, “While black remains dark, intense and classic, endorse it with lace, leather and checked patterns in hints of black or all black to be innovative. The silhouettes that are big this season and work well for black are full skirted, the hourglass silhouette with nipped waists and layering. I suggest trying the over sized look this season. While in embellishments, leather, shine material and metallic mesh would add perfect oomph. Black teams well with colours like crimson red, dusky pink or white to add an edge."

Black and zips have just collided on a stylish note in designer Shraddha Murarka's scheme of things. She says, “We can never have enough of black. Zips bring a nice grunge look to black sophistication.

Wear the style on dresses instead of the conventional jackets. A tartan dress that hooks black with bright shades is a winner all the way. Remember, black with contrasts is the defining point of the season."
