New galleries, fresh ideas
The year 2013 gave birth to new galleries and fresh concepts. While the likes of Deepika Reddy entered with Ginger Lily at Radisson Blu, events also got creative. Neeta Kumar of Inhabit Furniture held an art-furniture show at her store while Harini Ghanti of Cisne for Arts highlighted the lighter side of art with a live caricature show paired with a comedy night. Younger artists also put together multimedia presentations at galleries and other spaces.
Public & Interactive
Amid the global discussions on the need for public art, a first of its kind initiative was taken up as part of a larger event on issues of importance pertaining to urban lifestyle called Do Din. Although a slight nudge towards public art came during the Biodiversity summit in the city last year, it was only in 2013 that artists themselves started taking initiatives towards taking art to the people.
While artists like Manohar C. have taken their larger-than-life sculptures to spaces like the Golden Threshold campus in Nampally, the installations of Pavan Kumar D., Avani Rao Gandra and P. C. Prasad as part of Do Din were more interactive in nature.
