Waif in wonderland
Watch out for this leggy lass who promises to go places
Know her
She was on the Megamart Mega Model Hunt by Prasad Bidapa and after that there was no looking back. Devika worked with top notch designers — the likes of Manish Malhotra, Suneet Verma, Sanchita, Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla and has done a couple of ad campaigns. She is a trained dancer and was a co-instructor at Shiamak Davar Institute. Trained under Saroj Khan, the beauty has performed with Bengaluru based Indian contemporary dance company, Nritarutya. The leggy lass is an engineering student at MS Ramaiah Institute of Engineering.
The Year That Was
“The year 2013 started with Prasad Bidapa Fashion Week, after which I walked for many shows across the country and shot for a couple of brands. What I achieved this year was to successfully strike a balance between modelling and education. It’s been a roller-coaster ride with taking early morning flights back after shows and directly going to college for tests, juggling between shoots and submissions, being awake all night studying and then heading to work out as early as 5 am. I have roughed it out from college to shows. But at the end of the day, hard work always pays. I have shown my parents that I can multi-task and have done it well.”
The Year That Shall Be
I’m hoping to do a lot more work and hopefully get more time to devote to modelling. I would like to take up more assignments out of Bengaluru as well. I aspire to be like Jyothsna Chakravarthy, a Bengaluru model who made it big in Paris.
The High
The highpoint this year was my first fashion week — Colombo Fashion Week. I have done many ad campaigns this year, and seeing myself for the first time on billboards across the city gave me a high.
The low
I had to convince my parents to let me continue modelling as they wanted me to just concentrate on education. For every show and shoot I do, I have to prove to them with excellent marks in my studies.
Super number 50
I walked for 50 shows this year and my calendar is blocked with many more fashion shows in the coming months.
