Job Kurian is on cloud nine as he debuts as a music director for an upcoming film by Rajeev Nath, a national award winning director. He will be composing three songs for the film. “I consider myself fortunate to work on the music of this film. Though music direction requires constant preparation and research, I am enjoying it thoroughly. I had earlier composed for albums. However, it will be my first independent venture in film music direction,” says Job.

Job is excited about singing a song  Mandaarame.. for Om Shanthi Oshaana. It is a peppy number by Shaan Rahman. An engineering graduate, Job considers himself lucky to be a singer. “I consider myself very lucky to have lent my voice to some of the chart toppers such as Ennalakalee… (Honey Bee), Chillaanee… (22FK), Manikkya Chirakulla… (Idukki Gold), Thazhe Nee Tharame… (Thira). Besides, it is a great honour for me that I started my career singing with Chitra chechi for the movie Black Cat.”

He has sung more than 14 songs including some in other languages. According to Job, “All the songs were challenging. I always create a rapport with my music directors to ensure my best. Akaluvathenthino… from Red Wine was one of the toughest songs I have recorded.”

Apart from playback singing, Job is a popular choice for live performances. To Job, the energy that live performance provides is incomparable. “I love to perform live. If the crowd is positive, it can be the best experience for an artiste. Even a small flaw can jeopardise us.”

He wishes to be known as a musician rather than remain confined to certain titles. Job’s programme Music Mojo was an attempt to widen his horizon. “I never compromise on my work. In Music Mojo we try to infuse a  new flavour to existing songs. I am happy that it worked.”

Hailing from Kuttanad in Alappuzha, Job believes in the doctrine that hard work pays. “I was not a winner always. But, I tried to get inspiration  from my failures and kept trying,  like my father  always advised.”
