Film on ‘headshakes’ goes viral
Over one million people have viewed the film.
Alappuzha: It’s perhaps a record of sorts. A Keralite’s short film has become a jumbo hit on YouTube.
In about 10 days, over one million people have viewed it. Headshakes, What do they mean? A 1.5 minute-long film directed by Mumbai-based Malayali filmmaker Paul Mathew, has gone viral on the video sharing giant since February 16.
The dialogue-less film, viewed by over 1,080,142 people by Thursday evening, takes a sarcastic view of the nuances of Indian headshakes. The director said he popped up with the idea because people were confused over the meaning behind headshakes.
“The real meaning of an Indian headshake is a mystery. For instance, when we hire a taxi, we usually tell the driver where we would like to be dropped. But the driver seldom replies. But he will shake his head. It’s sometimes hard to figure out the exact meaning behind that headshake,” he said.
“We made the film to spread the message that we need to be refined. That needless shaking of the head is not part of good culture or refinement,” said the director.
