London: A new study has shown that women experience physical revulsion which induces nausea when exposed to graphic pornographic images without any context.

A study conducted at Groningen University in the Netherlands has found that women's physiological response to explicit images of sexual penetration was similar to what they feel when confronted with revolting food, the Independent reported.

According to the research, there is a strong overlap in the areas of the women's brain that became active in response to viewing the nausea-inducing pictures, and those showing the pornographic scenes.

The research has shown that a woman's body "immediately goes on the defensive" when seeing porn out of context, which is a response that could be explained by the relative susceptibility to infection that women face in comparison to men.
