Hyderabad: As a part of the state goes to polls on April 30, a few Hyderabadis are making last minute efforts to ensure that their city votes.

On Saturday, Palwai Raghavendra Reddy, Nitin Tanksale and Abhijeet Shesh uploaded a song titled The Ungli Dance. A take-off on the popular Lungi Dance, the trio at the Sipper Global Informatics (an outsource firm for political parties) has recomposed the song around the importance of the finger (ungli) in elections and dedicated it to the Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath.

The government itself is resorting to a song and dance to educate workers and not so tech-savvy sections of the society about voting. Smita Sabharwal, collector of Medak, has hired Bharath Kishore’s PR, ad and event management firm, Brand Strategics, to organise flashmobs across the city.

So, a crew of 12 dancers goes from industry to industry, dances on Hindi and Telugu songs and stages role-play games with the crowd.

Then there is the Yuvatha NGO, which has been conducting street plays for a month now. It is heading for its last show on Sunday. The group, led by 22-year-old Saketh Kothamasu, halts at seven spots from People’s Plaza to Jal Vihar every Sunday evening, stages the act and answers queries of the public.
