Wood apple, also known as “bael” in India, has loads of health benefits. Also called “elephant apple” and “curd fruit”, the ripe wood apple acts as a laxative to avoid constipation while the unripe fruit controls diarrhoea.
The sweet pulp of the fruit is filled with nutritious benefits with tannins, calcium, phosphorus, fibre, protein and iron.

Bowel friendly: Wood apple is a sure-fire cure for irregular bowel movements and an irritable intestine thanks to its rich reservoir of tannins. The wood apple tree also contains a gum like substance called “Feronia gum”, which aids to alleviate chronic dysentery.

Vitamin C booster: Being rich in Vitamin C, it helps prevent scurvy. Besides, Vitamin C is a natural antioxidant and improves immunity. Thus, the fruit protects against a variety of infectious diseases.

Summer cooler: A refreshing glass of bael juice is a wonderful cooler to beat the summer heat as it's very soothing for the system.

A word of caution: However, one has to be careful about not consuming the fruit excessively as more than generous use of this fruit can cause flatulence. Hence, people with severe gastric issues must be alert about its over-consumption.

Try a small quantity of the fruit initially in order to see its effects on your system. You can then increase the amount gradually.
This way, you'll rule out the risk of developing an allergy to this beneficial fruit.
