Hyderabad: There is a certain thrill in defiance. Fashion too is in the mood to throw away the rule book in style. Here’s your chance to be fashionably defiant with highly modest yet feminine long skirts. Even brands like Christian Dior and Roksanda Ilincic have crafted beautifully tweaked versions of tea length skirts in their Spring\Summer 14 lines and paired them with interesting tops.

Designer Urvashi Joneja, who is confident about the longer version of the skirts, says, “Ankle-length skirts, flared or straight fit, are making big statements this season. In my collection too, I have used a lot of monochromes for the longer skirt and played around with stripes and textures.

Minimal textures and embellishments work best for skirts, and one can combine it with any solid t-shirt or top. A must-have this season are cropped tops, and they look great with a long flowy skirt. In terms of fabrics, stick to crush cottons, jersey knits and flowy georgettes, as they go best with the silhouette.”

Designer Ekta Dhingra gives a thumbs up to the idea of ankle-length skirts for Indian summers. She says, “Why not get tan-free legs this season through long skirts, maxis, wraparounds and anarkali skirts.” The details she offers simply makes the job easier. “One can opt for a lungi style long skirt or go for an anarkali long skirt with drapes for an ethnic style. Your boardroom wardrobe aptly supports the sight of a long pencil skirt.”

Calling them cool for the sultry summers, designer Devika Sethi gives her vote to the floral skirts. “Floral prints are trending big this year,” she announces, adding, “For a formal take, rely on the charms of an ankle-length silk pencil skirt or go the flair way teamed with a halter neck top. Trust me, that’s one haute look at the moment.”
