China smartphone maker Xiaomi announces first tablet

After their well-known handsets, Xiaomi finally has launched their first tablet

Mumbai: Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Tech announced its first tablet at a product launch event in Beijing on Thursday, expanding its product lineup in a potential challenge to Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and Apple Inc.

Last week sources familiar with the matter had told Reuters that Xiaomi would soon launch a tablet.

Beijing-based Xiaomi became the world's sixth-largest smartphone vendor in the first quarter of 2014, according to data firm Canalys.

The Mi Pad features a 7.9-inch display and an NVIDIA TEGRA K1 Next-Gen Mobile Processor. The CPU is clocked at 2.2GHz (4+1 A15), while the GPU is a 192 Kepler. The RAM supporting the entire hardware is a 2GB. Wireless network features an 802.11ac with 2X2 antenna. Expandable micro-SD slot supports up to 128GB and the tablet is powered with a 6700 mAh battery that gives you approximately 1300 hours of standby time, or 86 hours of music playback, or 11 hours of video streaming. Lastly, the Mi Pad features a 5MP front camera and 8MP rear camera (both F/2.0). The tablet is vailable in two variants, one which has an internal storage of 16GB while the other one has an internal storage of 64GB.
