Mumbai: The last time Prateek Verma was slapped by his dad Surender Verma was when he got bad marks in Class IX. But the 20-year-old Prateek was slapped, punched and abused by the senior Verma recently thanks to a prank gone wrong.

The YouTube video “Pranking my angry dad gone wrong” has now gone viral with over 1.5 million views. It’s about Prateek telling his father that his girlfriend was pregnant. And the violence that follows is what made the video a huge success.

Currently in their final year of engineering in Delhi, Prateek and his friend Gaurav Sharma started their YouTube channel, Sociocatastrophetv, where they play pranks on people.

Prateek can’t stop laughing when asked about the latest prank. “My dad is the coolest father among my group of friends. So I just wanted to see how he would react when I told him this. I thought he would scream at me, but when he started beating me, I was shocked. I didn’t stop filming because I wanted to see how far he would go.”

While Prateek’s mother and older sister were in the know from before, his mother couldn’t stop him from getting beaten up as the door was locked from inside.

“It was fine when he kicked and slapped me, but when I saw him pick up a bottle, I told myself, ‘speak up or you will die’,” says Prateek, who then blurted out that it was a prank. His annoyed father just stormed out of the room.

“We never thought it would go this viral. But, shortly after it reached a few thousand views, we got a call from a Californian-based company and we’ve signed a deal with them. They will take care of the visibility of the video abroad,” he adds.

With their channel becoming a huge hit, Prateek says that the advertisements are pouring in. “We’re yet to receive our first cheque, so we’re waiting for that,” he says.

“He is (Prateek’s father) cool now. But he was very angry back then. Over the days people have started recognising him on the roads, someone even asked him to pose for a photo and he did,” laughs Prateek.
