Free: Desi e-books & e-mags
There are around 125,000 books available from 600+ publishers
Mumbai: Galloping tablet sales in India are triggering new interest in e-books and e-magazines, but the big-name global sources have few India-specific fare to offer.
Rockstand is a ‘desi’ alternative, offering a wide range of Indian ebooks and emags in English, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Punjabi, Marathi, Kannada, Sanskrit, Oriya, Urdu - in addition to an international selection.
The total collection is over 125,000 from 600-plus publishers. There is a fairly large collection of textbooks too. After recent tie-ups with DC Books, Malayalam Manorama , Mathrubhumi and Green Books, Rockstand now offers the largest e-collection in Malayalam.
Quite a lot of free fare is on offer and even the paid e-titles are reasonably priced at a fraction of the print edition cost. You need to download a special app to view the books -- the Android version for Phones and tablets is available at Google Play*. The company also offers to turn the print publications of budding authors into e-books for free.
