Building bridges: 'Generation We'
AIESEC Hyderabad event was attended by 800 students from 50 colleges
Hyderabad: Beat-boxing, a talk on entrepreneurship and 20 something youngsters all under the same roof — a most unlikely combination. But that’s exactly how one can describe ‘Generation We’, the first-ever event organised by AIESEC Hyderabad, which was attended by more than 800 young persons. The motto of the event was to bridge the gap between students and the corporates.
“In February, we had conducted a survey and based on the inputs from 1,000 youngsters, we came to know that students want to know more about entrepreneurship, technology and cultural understanding,” says 20-year-old Dheeraj B.S.V., organising committee president for the event and a student at JNTU.
“The event comprised a beat-boxing performance by Kaushik, who is a member, talks on the aforementioned topics and different activities to help the students understand the concepts being discussed. So we would give them a problem, encourage them to look at a country that faced the same problem and tackled it and how can their ideas be used in our country,” he adds.
One such activity was unemployment among youth in the city. “With such activities we tried to tell the students, how they can have an understanding of different cultures,” he says.
While the organisation had been trying to host this event even on previous occasions, it didn’t work because of “external factors”. “We now plan on making it and annual event. Out of the 800 students gathered, only 40 were members,” he says.
