Hyderabad: With Ganesh Chathurthi round the corner, every nook and cranny of the city is bedecked with clay statues of everyone’s favourite deity in varying sizes and colours. But such tangible
celebrations apart, many devotees across the city are busy celebrating the festival on their phones.
“Though numerous apps based on Ganesh and everything allegorical like bhajans, laddus and temples were launched a while ago, it was with the approach of the festival that these apps have gained more popularity,” said a spokesperson for Microsoft Corp. (India).
Applications like Ganesh Bhajan, Ganesh Runner and Zee Khana Khazana, are the most downloaded apps among a pool of others lately. Ganesh Bhajan, which offers a host of popular devotional hymns or bhajans, has caught the attention of many women. What’s more, for those wanting to give their phone screen a thematic look, the app offers spectacular wallpapers of Ganesh.
Ardent gamers amongst Ganesh devotees are swearing by the Ganesh Runner. “This is to primarily reinforce the true essence of Ganesh Chaturthi. The user will have to help Ganesh collect and eat as many laddus as possible while trying to dodge demons and various other obstacles,” said the spokesperson.
Considering the association one makes of the Lord and sweetmeats, devotees are hard at work, making delicacies for the festivals. Many are relying on the recipe app to make laddus and modhak.
