Hyderabad: Shah Rukh Khan’s eight-pack abs have suddenly captured the collective imagination, and nearly everyone now wants to sport an eight-pack body. But before you hit the gym with a vengeance, stop and ask if an eight-pack body is even an achievable feat for you.
Kunal Gir, fitness consultant, unveils the most important fact: “Eight-pack body structure is something you are either born with or you are not. It’s not something that everyone can have. Depending on the length of the your abdominal wall, you can have an eight-pack, a six-pack or perhaps a four-pack torso.”
So if you do have that structure, eight-pack is achievable, but only if you follow a strict diet and exercise routine.
Samir Jaura, the man behind Farhan Akhtar’s look in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Priyanka Chopra’s look in Mary Kom, and who is currently training Ram Charan, says, “It’s not a walk in the park. People need to understand that. To get an eight-pack body, you need a very vigorous training routine that needs to be monitored by a professional, and because of genetic reasons not everyone can have it. Your body fat level needs to be below 10 per cent. Diet is an important part where your carbohydrate, protein and fat intake everything has to be controlled. Also, you need to weigh your food to make sure it doesn’t exceed the limit. You need professional advice to make sure that you are not being malnourished.”
Kunal adds, “The diet depends on the energy expenditure and the energy intake. There needs to be a balance between the calorie intake and the calorie burn. Make sure that your diet is protein-rich as that has the highest thermic effect, which basically means generation of heat by burning of fat.”
Samir says, “The look can’t be achieved easily or in an haphazard manner. The diet differs from person to person and has to be monitored. Farhan himself had to undergo 13 months
of high intensity training.”
Meanwhile, celebrity personal fitness trainer, Kiran Dembla, says, “There are two ways to go about it, a short-term and a long-term process. The short-term process needs the help of steroids, and thus, makes the eight-pack body achievable in four or five months. But one must be warned about this as it is very harmful in the long run. It makes more sense, to wait for a year and have the perfect body without any side effects.”
