Diwali is synonymous with new clothes, scrumptious food and a house that is decorated and all lit up to welcome goddess Lakshmi. Many opt to paint their houses prior to Diwali and that does brighten things up. However, if you missed out on painting your wall, here are a few tips on how you can ‘dress up’ your walls this Diwali.

Interior designer Supraja Rao says, “For the festive season, the best and most convenient way to decorate is with flowers. An elaborate effect can be achieved with a flower jaali that can be created by putting up flower strings diagonally across each other to create a web. Marigolds, roses or lilies work well for this. Remember to use long-lasting flowers that will also spread an aroma in your room.”

Sharing another DIY tip she says, “Another idea is to look for an old, yet bright Banarasi sari and hang it in close proximity to the wall with the help of a string. Put a table right in front of it with a little Lakshmi statue in keeping with the Diwali theme, and put candles around the statue. If you are concerned that the candles and the sari are too close to each other, and to avoid a fire mishap, you can use LED candles.”

Another fabulous idea that she shared was to use wall hangings which come with tea-light candle holders or stickers.
