Dressing metallic is a strongest trend
This season, take a shine to gold and silver or copper as metallic
The lustrous shine simply refuses to fade away from all things fashionable. In fact, in recent times, not a single season could ignore the metallic mood. As we near autumn/winter, metallic shades are strongly giving signals of leading the show.
Designers Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor label metallics as the strongest trend this season. “Be it clothes bags shoes or any accessory, be it night or day it adds spunk to your dressing. Metallic trims are most used in Indian couture as they form the most impactful border and sequence linings,” says Anjalee. The key, this season, is to tone it down, feels Arjun, and says, “You have already enjoyed the OTT metallic show. This season, restraint is winning hands down, so settle for soft metallic hues in pastel shades.”
Since metallics have been in business for so long, it’s vital to keep things fresh, feels designer Delna Poonawala. “Usage of fabrics to create body-sculpted looks, and mixing them with pastel shades and prints has added a new take on the 80’s metallic trend. I like using metallic embellishments on tunics and sarees for that extra spunk. The result is pure fashion alchemy and decadent glamour,” she says.
Her pick of this season’s shade card: “Gold remains consistent as we go into autumn/winter, especially shades of rose gold. Silver can be worn during the day in colder regions, but avoid sequins or shimmer and go for sheen. Chromatic colours, such as pinks or reds, are a new addition to the family of metallic colours.”
Designer Farah Sanjana believes muted metallic tones is the way to go this season. “Metallics in soft hues of dull gold, pale blues and dusty pinks look very glamorous and are the perfect mix of high octane glamour and class.”
Opting for the minimal route, Farah suggests: “Pick one element and focus on making that the statement piece of the look. It could be a metallic bustier, teamed with a baby pink lehenga, Or metallic accessories and head pieces. Statement metallic clutches are also doing the rounds this season.”
Mix and match and keep on experimenting, advises Delna. “For instance, a simple top in a pastel shade, paired with a metallic skirt, or a cozy jumper, will add that pop to the outfit. A classic metallic dress looks fabulous when accessorised with nude coloured shoes and minimal make-up. A gunmetal silver jacket, white silver top and silver grey running shoes, is a look that’s great during the day. For a simple and chic look, go all out with metallic accessories, such as studded rose gold shoes, like the ones by Louboutin, or a statement bag in metallic sheen. Bags with metallic chains by Stella Mc Cartney are also in vogue these season.”
