KOZHIKODE: Have you ever imagined wishing a cake ‘Happy Birthday’?  You’ll get the chance to do so when the cake turns 131 in the country.  And the State Bakers Association, with its roots in Thalassery, is going to commemorate the event by making the longest cake ever made in Kerala.

The cake which will be made in Thrissur and christened as ‘Cakinkadu Pooram’ will be the longest cake covering a length of 600 feet long and weighing almost 3500 kilograms. This long slab of sweet bliss to celebrate a legacy will not only have a pictorial depiction of the history of Thrissur but also the history of cakes in the nation.

Thrissur will witness yet another historic occasion when the cake is cut, during the anniversary celebrations. It was in Thalassery in 2012, the last giant cake which was 354 feet long was made.
Cochin Bakery owner MP Ramesh will lead the team which will make the giant cake that will be eggless (vegetarians please note) and made with edible oil (so those who are watching their calories also make a note).

“A team of 30 cake experts will complete the cake in a day. We are expecting to break the records of all cakes made so far in our country”, Ramesh claims.

Bakers’ association is also organizing a grand ‘Bake Expo -2014’ to mark the anniversary. Various stalls of bakeries and an array of decorated cakes will be displayed at the two-day event to begin on October 31.
