WhatsApp plans to introduce free voice calls in 2015
Voice calls will be enabled on WhatsApp’s new 4.5.5 version
Whatsapp is in full swing to introduce new user friendly features and encourage more people to download its app. WhatsApp had planned to introduce free calling service this year. But, unfortunately, it has been postponed to 2015.
Reports state that, at present, WhatsApp does not have full access to microphones of selective handsets. Due to this limitation, the noise cancellation would be more difficult.
WhatsApp will add a 4-button series, which will include options like call mute, switch to text message, directing the call through device speaker and hanging up. The Fuse Joplin reported that the new free calling feature will be offered on WhatsApp’s new 4.5.5 version. On dialling the number from your WhatsApp contact list, a colored ‘call in progress’ bar will appear on WhatsApp.
Engineers of WhatsApp are also working on making WhatsApp voice calls accessible to areas which have very low network or EDGE coverage. The new free calling feature will give WhatsApp another reason to be a tough competitor to Hike, WeChat, Line and other such apps.
