There’s nothing more clichéd than a teddy bear and a card for Valentine’s Day

Mumbai: The countdown to Valentine’s Day has begun and so has the stress to get your Valentine the best gift possible. And if you have thought of buying a teddy bear and a cute card, you might consider dumping that idea. Our T-town stars too believe that this V-day, you should go beyond the clichéd cards. Be original this Valentine’s Day.

Make something, spend time on a gift:

Actor Harshvardhan Rane is quite the lady’s man and he does have an idea or two of what you can give your girlfriend. “I know a lot of people think cards and teddy bears are the way to a girl’s heart, but I know for a fact that when you gift someone something that you make, it always becomes very important. I love carpentry and I make a lot of things, so if I had to give someone a gift, I would give something I made, like a make-up box, or a dresser.”

He adds, “When you’re making something for people, it means that you’re investing your time in them and there is nothing more valuable than knowing that someone has spent their time on you.”

Harshvardhan might have a lot of female fans, but the actor confesses that he has never approached anyone. “I’m too shy to ask someone out, and the one serious relationship that I was in, I was asked out first,” he says, laughing. But he has a word of advice, “If you’re proposing to someone on V-day or are just asking them out, be careful and be open to getting rejected. There is always a 50 per cent chance of getting rejected.

“Also, I know a lot of guys like things like remote-controlled cars, games etc. I think finding out what they love and gifting them the exact same thing can score brownie points,” he chips in.

Personalise the gift:

Actor Nikhil, true to his profession, is very filmi, as are his ideas for V-day. The actor says, “My idea of a V-day date would be to take the girl I like to a date by the beachside.” He too thinks that cards are things of the past.

“If you have a boyfriend or a girlfriend you should listen to them, keep track of what they say and buy them something that they really like and could make use of. What could someone possibly do with a teddy bear? These are things that are forgotten with time, but something personal, that could be anything, will stay with them for a long time.”

Say it with chocolates:

While the boys do make a point, actress Anisha Ambrose, who is a foodie says, “Chocolates are the way to go! I love to eat a lot and yes, I love chocolates. I also believe that they never go out of fashion, so it would be safe to give a huge box of chocolate.”

But, she says that while approaching someone, you should take it easy and play it safe by not creeping out people. “Don’t harass someone if they don’t accept your proposal. Just accept it and move on. Sometimes people can go overboard and that can be very irritating, so I would suggest that you go easy,” she says.
