Have you ever watched a movie and thought, ‘I want to go there’? Movies can actually drive people to visit places they had never thought of going to before. Here are some movies that have statistically increased the tourism of a place.

Frozen

Ever since the release of the Disney musical way back in 2013, it has not only won the heart of every child, but also fired up the tourism in Norway. Although the movie takes place in the mythical kingdom of Arendelle, it is loosely based on the Scandinavian country. According to Innovation Norway, which promotes tourism in the country, travel to Norway from the United States jumped 37 percent between January and March, compared to the same period last year.

Percy Jackson

Ever since Rick Riordan’s influential novels started coming out back in 2005, the tourism in Greece has profited. The books are based on Greek mythology, and they have succeeded in making children want to visit Greece, just so they can pray to their Godly parents and take their rightful place in Camp Half-Blood. Speaking of Camp Half-Blood, it has also sent people to Long Island Sound, NYC in search for the Camp. Oh, and if your kids demand to go up to the 600th floor of the Empire State building, don’t be surprised.

Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit

All of the movies in the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit franchise have been shot around various locations in New Zealand. The best part is, some places have been left as they are, and are now open for tourists. People from all over the world (calling themselves Tolkien Tourists) travel down to New Zealand to pay their respects to the epic attractions, which were once inhabited by Gandalf and Bilbo Baggins.

Harry Potter

No one needs introduction to the magical world of Harry Potter. For years, people have been travelling all around England, visiting places which helped bring the epic books by J. K. Rowling to life. Harry learnt to fly for the first time within the walls of Alnwick Castle in Northeast England, which served as Hogwarts. While you’re in London, you can also visit King’s Cross and St Pancras Stations. Just remember not to break your nose trying to get through platform nine and three quarters! Now that a Harry Potter theme park has opened in Universal studios, Orlando, Potterheads can live out all their fantasies (and raid the gift shop).
