No blues here...

Despite the noise from the streets outside, it’s the quiet inside P. Jagan Mohan’s Green Scene studio, that surprises you first. Situated on the fifth floor, in Jubilee Hills, the ambience is inviting and all around you are brilliant examples of good design that have been planned by Jagan.

With pebbled pathways, laterite stone-clad walls, creepers and plants everywhere, Jagan has managed to effectively create a green space right above a concrete jungle. And that’s when he clears a common gardening myth. “Many believe that to have a good landscape, they need space. But I beg to differ. Nature can be recreated in the smallest of spaces.”

Sample this: Within a tiny four-foot pathway (pictured right), Jagan has included a water feature, plants and even a seating area. The space is extremely intimate.

Another creative idea found in his 2,000 sft built-up area office is the of paintings and inspiring quotes painted on the walls.

“I like the idea of quotes on the wall; it doesn’t just create a very soulful work environment, but can also be changed every three or four months,” says Jagan.

And maybe that’s the reason why there are no Monday blues in this office. “There are only Monday greens here,” the designer says with a laugh. “The idea to have a space like this arose from the question: ‘Why should an office be like an office?’ A work space should be exciting; people should run into it and not away from it. From our office, we set the mood for the work we create. This also works as an experience centre for our clients.”

Also, everything in the office is customised, right from a salvaged timber log that can be turned into a table to the use of colour.

And if you thought, all of the above was just that one floor, prepare yourselves for the Jagan’s ‘terrace office’ — an open-air space with white-painted cement furniture and aqua or green cushions, with a soothing fish pool and little lit-up areas. The terrace space is where the team can actually hang out even after work.

This office does serve the purpose. Because if you’re into making things look good, why shouldn’t your workspace inspire, or even comfort you?
