Ticket price hike for Baahubali?
With budget of Rs 150 crore, producers and exhibitors to get back this investment
Much awaited Tollywood behemoth Baahubali is now being described as one of the most expensive films ever made in India with a budget of nearly Rs 150 crore. But with that claim, comes the responsibility of recovering that massive sum of investment and according to sources, the film’s producers are currently mulling over plans on how to break even or better yet make profit. And the brainstorming has led to a proposal to hike ticket prices for the film.
“The producer, along with members from the film industry here, are planning to meet Telangana IT minister K. T. Rama Rao to explain the price hike proposal. Once the government approves the plan in the Nizam area, then distributors from the two states will automatically increase the price of tickets,” revealed a source. The team from the industry will attempt to convince the minister who is currently in the United States saying movie ticket prices have already been hiked in cities including New Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai.
A hike could mean that multiplex tickets on Friday and the weekend could cost as much as Rs 250. Even single-screen cinemas could double ticket cost and existing prices will return to normal prices during weekdays.“The representatives from the industry are waiting for the minister’s return. To recover the investment put into the movie, this is a good idea. The first wise step was to release the movie in two parts,” the source added.
