Mumbai: Sonakshi Sinha raised eyebrows when she decided to be a part of Indian Idol Junior’s season two, but the Dabangg actress feels that her tie-up with singing goes back to the time she was a kid. “I always wanted to be able to sing since I was a kid. I told my mom Mumma gaana sikhna hai. One fine day she got me a tutor. He came with a big harmonium and we rehearsed the whole day and the next day he just did not come back. So my aspiration was never fulfilled. I have decided that I’ll learn singing on the show, come what may,” she adds.
While many A-list Bollywood actors are shying away from the small screen, Sonakshi asserts that she is treading her own course, “I like to make my own path. The small screen has a huge reach.” If given a chance to sing, what kind of song would she prefer, we wonder. “It all depends on my mood actually. Sometimes I like singing melodious songs and then kabhi kabhi mujhe chilaane walle gaane acche lagtey hain,” she says. It’s her first stint on the small screen as a judge for a reality show. We ask her if she has prepared for it.
“These kids are too young. I won’t judge them. I’ll encourage them. It’s not easy to reach this level. These kids have proved that they are supremely talented by reaching here. I’m looking forward to be a part of this show, I won’t be able to judge them on the basis of their singing, but I’ll be representing a common person who likes music, who appreciates music and someone who enjoys singing and dancing. I’ll be someone who encourages them and have lots of fun,” Sonakshi says.
Her Son Of Sardar co-star Juhi Chawla is a trained singer. Ask Sonakshi if she has any plans to follow her footsteps and she says, “When we were shooting for the film, after our pack up she used to go to her room and do riyaaz. It’s never too late to learn anything.”
