Greece has been making headlines for emerging as one of the significant crisis-ridden economies. Greek banks have shuttered down after the crisis took a traumatic turn that is rippling through global markets.
The people in Greence are suffering endlessly, but the lesser known victims are the animals. According to Metro, families are releasing their pets into the street, with many dying of disease and starvation. Reportedly, an incredible number of animals are being abandoned by their owners on the streets. Dogs have been found tied to benches and trees, kittens and puppies are tied in plastic bags and thrown into bins or driven to the countryside.
A good Samaritan names Simon Anthony has set up a funding page to help these animals in distress, as the crisis deepens. Anthony says, "The animals didn't cause this disaster though and they can't ask for financial help, which is why I am asking for them."
The British man is currently a student in Athens, and has organised this fund to help thousands of animals that are in dire need of food, medical care and transportation to new homes. Unlike other countries that provide animals rights and welfare, pets in Greece have no government help or support network.
These forgotten victims of the crisis need help and the charity appeal asks to raise £25,000.
