Playback singer Mohammed Aslam of Rang De Basanti fame is back in Tamil after a gap of time, and has for the first time crooned a gana number. The singer started his career in K’town with a song Naan Uravukaran in the Sarath Kumar starrer Naattamai and then sang for music composers like SA Rajkumar and Vidyasagar in Tamil as well as Telugu.

He came to the limelight when AR Rahman roped him in for his B’town flick Rang De Basanti. Thereafter, he has been a regular in Rahman’s movies. Aslam is more known for his stage performances in India as well as abroad, says, “There’s a warm welcome for gana numbers worldwide. It was my longtime desire to use my vocal chords for a gana number. When my composer friend Santhosh called me to render a gana number Marana Adi Adichaaye Penne for his film Dumeel Kuppam, I got excited and gave my nod immediately. The lines in the song are centred around Chennai which was fascinating,” says Aslam.
