It’s time to ramp up your style with eye-catching pops of colour, as designers get set to showcase their latest creations on July 23. With established designers of the likes of Gaurang Shah, Monapali, Rehane and Rina Dhaka, taking centre-stage will be 26 handpicked designers in a four-day gala de la mode. Here’s what’s in store for Day 1 of the BFW. The shows will begin with a dazzling collection by Kirty of Dream Zone.
Ravi Ranjan Kumar: Noida-based designer Ravi Ranjan Kumar will be showcasing oversized, dropped shoulder jackets, blazers, kurtas and pherons in natural fabrics like linen, cotton and silk mixed with free flowing silhouettes for both men and women. “Each of my ensembles depicts a message that is to love mother nature through exquisite embroidery, zardozi and sujani,” states Ravi, a NIFT Kolkata graduate.
Madhusmita Panda of Weaver Ants: In her winter festive collection, the designer attempts to capture the colours of the rising sun to the ultimate dark night sky. Madhusmita who hails from the temple town of Puri, Odisha, states, “My couture line represents Indian temple tradition with an edge of western touch. I’m very passionate about reflecting Odia temple traditions onto fabrics. On the personal level, I love pets and gardening and I have two dogs and a macau.”
Priyal Bhardwaj of Roobaroo: Dhrishti is the reflection of your own soul. The collection is an amalgamation of light fabrics and free silhouettes that appeals to your inner thoughts of freedom. “I’ve played around with flirty, flowy silhouettes in light georgettes, offset by silk velvets. I’ve used calming whites and royal purples to accentuate the silhouettes. Fusion of traditional Indian and modern, edgy yet classic,” says Bengaluru based designer, who hails from Bhopal and is a graduate from NIFT Hyderabad. “I love travelling and photography,” she adds.
Rehane: Chennai-based designer Rehane is also a photographer, painter and poet. Her collections are bold and flamboyant and she has dressed celebrities like Kamal Hassan, Trisha, Gauthami, Aishwarya Rai, Dipika Pallikal and Stan Wawrinka. “The collection I will showcase is all about femininity in watered down pastels. The silhouette is long and the detailing is refined and subtle. I like to illustrate and paint with pastels and oils. I also have a collection of 500 poems of my own and plan to publish a book,” she reveals.
Riyaz Gangji of Libas: Mumbai-based Riyaz and Reshma Gangji will showcase a collection of light blues and mints mixed with soft prints and light embroideries. Fabrics ranging from polyesters, georgettes, corduroys and jacquards are all blended with an expert eye on the final effect. Embroidery is minimal and the feel of the collection is very red carpet.
