Apart from a sound night’s sleep, even the position you sleep in plays an important role in your well-being, according to a recent study. So, whether you sleep on your side, stomach, back or curl in a fetal position, can have an influence your brain health, moods and even your personality in positive or negative ways.
The team of researchers at Stony Brook University, led by Dr Helene Benveniste, observed the sleeping positions and consequent brain processes in rodent models to come to their conclusions, reports the
Metro. They also explained how a number of neurological diseases are connected to sleep disturbance. Published in the Journal of Neuroscience, the study discovered that sleeping on our side allows the brain to empty itself of waste products, which brings down the risk of developing neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s. Sleeping on the side also supports the spine and neck, which ensures not just a good night’s sleep but also fewer injuries and better overall health.
