If you happen to be falling ill way too often, then maybe it is time to think about how many hours you spend staring at your computer screen. If researchers at the universities of Swansea and Milan are to be believed then those who spend many hours online are more likely to be vulnerable to illness like cold infections or flu as compared to those who don’t.

The scientists support their findings on the fact that people, who are internet addicts, tend to be more secluded individuals and therefore, have weakened immune systems, as reported by the Daily Mail. Lack of interpersonal interaction and staying indoors too long can make them more prone to attacks by disease-causing germs, they explain. Evaluating 500 people aged 18 to 101 years, researchers found that those who spend more time online also suffered from greater sleep deprivation, unhealthier eating habits, exercised less and smoked and drank alcohol more.

The researchers also observed that people addicted to the internet may endure great stress when they are disconnected from the net. “It does not seem to matter what you use it for, if you use it too much, you are more susceptible to illness,” Professor Roberto Truzoli of Milan University told the Daily Mail
