Different civilizations have had diverse beauty and hair care practices since ages. But have you ever wondered where did shampoo come from? No, it’s not Egypt or any European country. Shampoos actually came from India.
People in India were known to use the pulp of a fruit called soapberries combined with some herbs and hibiscus flowers as early as the 1500s. That’s when the British colonial traders came to know about it and introduced the idea of shampooing your hair to Europe.
In fact, even the word ‘shampoo’ itself is derived from the Indian word champo, which means to press or massage.
