Saif Ali Khan isn’t known for having made the best film choices in the recent past. He is probably the only one among his contemporaries to have rejected as many good roles as he has.
For instance, he said no to Kabir Khan’s New York because he was shooting for Kurbaan at the time. His last few releases Bullet Raja, Humshakals and Happy Ending have been box office duds as well.
After a spate of flops, Phantom will probably prove to be his winning film. Says trade analyst Atul Mohan, “For one, it is directed by Kabir Khan, still soaking in the success of Bajrangi Bhaijaan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, known to have the Midas touch. Besides, it stars Katrina Kaif who is making an onscreen appearance after two years. Plus, the last couple of weeks haven’t seen a great blockbuster, which paves way for one.” Says director Kabir Khan, “I know about the performance of Saif’s last few films, but with Phantom, it is the content that will draw the audiences. My last film Bajrangi Bhaijaan had a superstar and did very well. We are prepared to not have an opening like that for Phantom, but once reports about the content spreads, the crowds will come in.”
