For sisters Aditi and Divya Nitin, good food has always been an integral part of their lives. And it hardly surprised anyone when the two — both good cooks — came up with an enterprise revolving around the very new-age principle of “recipe in a box”.

Called Scabetty, (because Aditi’s son Shantanu couldn’t say spaghetti), their business caters to the extremely busy who still want to eat a good meal in the comforts of their home. Aditi, who was based out of London, where she worked with an analytics company, was inspired by her own experiences.

“When I would come back home, exhausted, I still wanted to make my family a fantastic meal so, I used to order ingredients and the ‘prep package’ from a similar company there,” says Aditi.

Later, back in India, Aditi teamed up with sister Divya to replicate the system. According to their business plan, one can order recipes from a list of cuisines that are on the website. A client will then be sent a box with ingredients and a leaflet of the recipe ordered. “Each week, there will be three cuisines and each cuisine will have three recipes. Every four weeks we will change one cuisine. Once you place an order, depending on the time slot, your recipe will be delivered,” explains Divya.

Hyderabad is not new to the concept of ‘recipes in a box’ but what could set Scabetty apart is a personal touch. “I’ve been cooking for a while now... all recipes that are a part of our boxes are from my recipe book. We try out each recipe and even make a few alterations to fit the recipe within the time frame of 30 minutes,” says Aditi.

There’s even a secret sauce made in their kitchen to give a certain boost to the taste. “Most of our recipes have several secret sauces that are prepared at the Scabetty kitchen,” say the sisters.

Scabetty’s recipe boxes have been tailored for two but the quantity is enough for at least one more person. The vegetarian recipe is priced at Rs 450 and a non-vegetarian recipe is set at Rs 550. “Everything is prepared and sent to you, the only ingredient that we don’t send is water,” says Aditi. The two sisters are also bringing out a dessert line.
