Japan’s Kishi station gets cat Nitama as new stationmaster
Her predecessor cat Tama had served as stationmaster for eight years before her death
After Tama, the cat who served as stationmaster at Wakayama Electric Railway’s Kishi station for about eight years passed away this June, her successor has been named by the railway’s president Mitsunobu Kojima – Nitama, who like her predecessor is also a calico cat.
Kojima listed the main requirements for the role being the ability to “feel comfortable with people at the workplace” and a willingness to wear a hat. Nitama was deemed capable for the role since she had successfully graduated from the “Training school for Cat Stationmaster”, according to the Huffington Post.
Nitama has reportedly also served as a stationmaster at Idakiso station and also as a receptionist with the Okayama Electric Tramway. She also bagged the job of the deputy stationmaster at Kishi station when Tama was still running the place, reports the Huffington Post.
